Linda Kasabian joined up with the Manson Family after splitting up with her husband at the time, in July 1969 about a month before the Tate- Labianca murders. She brought her daughter Tanya with her. She pretty much "bought" her way into the family rather quick by stealing $5000 and giving it to Manson. Linda was the driver on both nights of the murders. She did not participate in any of the killings, however. While at the Tate residence, she stood guard at the gate while the killings were going on. She heard the victims scream for their lives, and ran up to the house to see a beaten, stabbed, shot, and dying Wojciech Frykowski in which she told him "Sorry" just before he collapsed. She also witnessed Steven Parrent getting shot to death prior to Tex, Susan, and Patricia entering the residence.
Vincent Bugliosi says Linda is cut from a different thread than the others, but is it a statement to justify an immunity deal for Linda? Most people think so. They feel she knew very well what was going to happen the 2nd night when she drove Charles Manson and the family around for hours before finally stopping at the Labianca residence. Then after driving off and leaving Tex, Patricia, and Leslie at the residence, in which Manson had the couple tied up and took their wallet, Linda then took Mrs. Labianca's wallet and placed it in the ladies restroom of a store, to make it appear that the killings were done from someone in that neighborhood.
Linda was indicted by the grand jury along with the rest of the defendants but became the star witness by turning states evidence first and by far was the most damming testimony against the family.
Leslie Van Houten was offered a deal as well, but unlike Linda, who had only been at the ranch a month; Leslie was deeply brainwashed, heavily into drugs and pretty much had no control over her actions or even thoughts at the time.
So Bugliosi's insinuation on Linda having better morals, is not a fair comparison.
Nonetheless, Linda didn't physically stab a body and has not had any association with Manson since the trials. However it is no secret that over the years, she has been in trouble with the law on more than one occasion. These days, Ms Kasabian appears to living a more settled life.
